We encourage you to become a part of a rich history of musical and academic achievement in the Department of Music at The W . Music instruction has been a part of our institution for nearly 150 years. The W is the first institution in the state of Mississippi to be accredited by the National Association of the Schools of Music (NASM) in 1935. Our halls have hosted presidents, governors, numerous other world leaders, and countless internationally renowned musicians.

Our alumni are music teachers, professors, music therapists, and independent musicians creating music, educating the next generation of musicians, and helping people all around the world.

All of The W's singing and instrumental opportunities are open to music majors as well as non-majors. Participating in any of our ensembles means joining a group of committed music makers who support one another both as musicians and fellow schoolmates. The W Singers & Instrumental Players serve the University, Alumni, and the community and are appreciated for their excellence.

Music by Women Festival

Music by Women

The seventh annual international Music by Women Festival will be held March 2-4, 2023 on the campus of the Mississippi University for Women. The festival will feature concerts of new and historic music written by women composers historically as well as in the present day.
