Portrait of Eudora Welty

Welcome

Each October the Department of Languages, Literature, and Philosophy sponsors the Eudora Welty Writers' Symposium to honor one of MUW's most famous alumnae. A diverse group of Southern writers and scholars are invited to present their work. One highlight of the symposium is the announcement of the Eudora Welty Prize for an unpublished book of scholarship on women's studies, Southern studies, or modern letters. All Symposium events will be held in Poindexter Hall on the MUW campus and are free and open to the public. The Symposium is made possible through the generous support of the Robert M. Hearin Support Foundation.

This year's symposium will be held October 22-24, 2009. We are pleased to be part of MUW's 125th Anniversary Celebration by beginning the Symposium on Founders' Day, the day the doors to the campus were opened. Check back here for more details on how we will enhance the symposium this year. And visit our Preview page to see which authors have accepted our invitation. The list is nearly complete, and as more information is added, it will become our online program. Look for the full schedule in September.

This year's schedule and program will be posted as soon as they are finalized. When they are, the links above will be active. In the meantime, updates on this year's authors and their books can be found at the Eudora Welty Writers' Symposium Group on:
