Long-time educator named to lead Student Success Center at The W
Mississippi University for Women has announced Dr. Clear Moore as director of the Student Success Center.
“Dr. Moore has a tremendous record of working with students and identifying solutions to help them be successful. I know the Student Success Center will continue to do great things on behalf of our students under Dr. Moore’s leadership,” said Scott Tollison, the provost/vice president for academic affairs.
Throughout her career, Moore has demonstrated leadership skills and a dedication to student success. Most recently, she served as the director for academic affairs at the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science. At MSMS, Moore collaborated with other directors, faculty, staff and students to plan and implement orientation for new and returning students and managed the disability services for MSMS students. During her tenure, Moore spearheaded the development and implementation of the new diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, supervised a team of approximately 30 employees and collaborated to provide dual credit opportunities.
“I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve The W students through the Student Success Center. The center is a hub of care spanning pre-enrollment and orientation all the way through graduation. It is an honor to work with such a dedicated staff and faculty,” said Moore.
In addition to her administrative roles, Moore has been actively involved in curriculum development and teaching. She served as the in-person and virtual STEAM exploration director at William Carey University’s Tradition Campus, where Moore ensured equitable access to summer programs for gifted students. Moore also has worked as a curriculum developer for gifted English courses and has taught a variety of subjects ranging from English language arts to multimedia broadcasting at both the secondary and university levels.
Moore brings more than two decades of teaching experience to the university. In previous positions, Moore has led professionals to address student retention, increase positive school culture, increase access to AP coursework and created virtual classroom best practices materials.
“In her many years of work both in the classroom and as an administrator, Dr. Moore has supported students to meet their academic goals by designing and implementing innovative interventions in partnership with faculty. We are very excited for the vision she will bring to her role as director and all the ways she and her team will move the work of the center forward,” said Dr. Kim Whitehead, associate vice president for Academic Affairs.
Outside of the classroom, she has presented at conferences such as the National Consortium of Secondary STEM Schools and the Mississippi Association for Gifted Children, covering topics like meeting the needs of twice exceptional students and embracing social and emotional wellness.
Since moving to Columbus, Moore has served on the Chamber of Commerce Education Committee and Military Affairs Committee. She is a member of the board for Pick It Up Possum Town and the board of the Columbus Rotary Club. In December, Moore was elected to the board of the Mississippi Association for Gifted Children.
Moore holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and a Specialist of Special Education from the University of Southern Mississippi. She earned her Master of Secondary English Education and Bachelor of Arts in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing from Louisiana State University.
The Student Success Center, located in Reneau Hall, provides students with the necessary tools for academic success at the university. The center provides tutoring, proctoring and disability services to all students. The Student Success Center is additionally responsible for orientation.
