Emergencies (such as difficulty breathing, heart attack, etc.) should CALL 911 and the campus police department at (662) 241-7777.
The Campus Health Care provides walk-in care and health education to Students, Faculty, and Staff of The W and MSMS, along with their spouses and dependent children over the age of three years.
Services provided to students, faculty, and staff are provided free of charge.
Spouses and dependents will be charged a fee of $15 for care.
There is a nominal charge to cover the cost of medications, supplies, and complete physical exams for all individuals using the health center.
Medical Care
The Campus Health Center is staffed by Nurse Practitioners. The Nurse Practitioners are doctorally prepared registered nurses who in their expanded role are licensed to diagnose and treat many common conditions.
The Nurse Practitioners in the health center are family nurse practitioners that are able to order tests, and refer to specialists as needed.
The protocols for treatment are developed in conjunction with the Mississippi Board of Nursing and a collaborating physician.
Additional Care
- Take the blood pressure and heart rate
- Take temperature
- Assist individuals with any questions regarding medications
- Wellness practices
- Check weight
- Answer general questions regarding health issues
- Lab work can be drawn with proper orders from a physician or nurse practitioner
- TB skin testing can be administered and read
Please feel free to contact the Health Center at (662) 329-7289 should you have any questions about our services. The Receptionist/Administrative Assistant is usually available by phone after 7:30 am to answer any question regarding staffing for that day.
Injections
Injections can be administered by the Registered Nurse provided the individual provides the medication with the exact dosing information. If the supplies are provided by the individual there is not a charge. There will be a $5.00 charge if supplies are used from the health center supply stock. The exception to this will be allergy injections. A Nurse Practitioner must be present before the Registered Nurse can administer allergy injections due to the possibility of a reaction and follow-up care.
Children and Pregnant Women
Due to the specialized nature of their care, the Campus Health Center can not provide services to pregnant women or children under three years of age.

COVID-19 testing is now offered at the Campus Health Center by appointment and based on physical assessment, history and test availability.

Free vaccinations and booster shots are available to all members of the campus community. If you are interested in receiving a free COVID-19 vaccine or booster on campus, please call the Campus Health Center at 662-329-7289.

Please note: Due to safe handling and storage procedures of the vaccine, supply from the Mississippi Department of Health on a specific day may be limited to scheduled appointments. Scheduling ahead of time will help ensure we have the vaccine available for your appointment time.
