“This award means the most to me since I have dedicated my life to performing music by women composers. The award, ‘honors and endorses those performers who have made deliberate, conscious efforts to achieve greater gender equity in their programming by including women composers.’ Therefore, receiving this award is a recognition of my commitment to advocacy for women composers on and off the stage,” said Mortyakova.

The commitment includes the founding of the International Annual Music by Women Festival, which is held at The W each March. This year’s event is set for March 7-9.

“Mortyakova is dedicated to advocating for women composers both on and off the stage. She regularly performs solo programs comprised solely of women composers, numerous piano concerti written by women and has released four albums featuring their work. Additionally, she is the founder/ artistic director of the International Annual Music by Women Festival,” reads the award synopsis from IAWM.

She hopes to use this most recent award to further expand her mission of bringing women composers to the forefront of the music world.

“The award supports and recognizes my passion for programming women composers. In addition to performing, I have recorded four albums featuring music by women composers and have presented numerous conference presentations about their lives and work.
