Little Music Makers clinic begins Tuesday

Mississippi University for Women’s Music Therapy Clinic is bringing the Little Music Makers Clinic back for the spring term beginning Tuesday.

“We had a great response for the first semester of our program. Those that did attend were of a variety of ages, from crawling infants to those getting ready for kindergarten,” said Carmen Osburn, professor of music and director of music therapy.

The program runs for 10 weeks, meeting each Tuesday from 9:30-10:15 a.m. Children up to 4 years old can participate.

The program is free but requires registration. There is no deadline to register.

Attendance is limited to 10 children, however, Osburn said there was room to allow a few extra students if needed.

Bringing the program back for another year was a no-brainer for Osburn.

“I learned, or was reminded, how much I enjoy working with young children, and seeing the wonderful responses that they can have with music experiences. When parents are a part of that music experience it greatly enhances their relationship with their child. Our hope is to offer this program every semester, and eventually get the W music therapy students involved in providing the music experiences as part of their clinical training program,” she said.

The clinic is located in the former Speech-Language Pathology space in the Cromwell Communication Center, located at the corner of Ninth Street South and Sixth Avenue South.
