The W ranked near the top among ‘Best Bang for the Buck’ colleges
Ranked No. 4 by Washington Monthly’s 2024 Best Bang for the Buck Rankings: South, Mississippi University for Women has once again been recognized for helping students achieve affordable degrees.

Among the 2024 Master’s University Rankings, The W improved to No. 49 after being ranked No. 98 in 2023. Previously, Washington Monthly’s 2023 Best Bang for the Buck Rankings: South ranked the university No. 15.
Washington Monthly states the annual Best Bang for Buck Rankings acknowledges “schools that do a good job helping students of modest means earn reasonably priced degrees that help them get economically ahead in life.”
Since 2005, Washington Monthly has presented an alternative set of benchmarks for what “excellence” is in higher education, ones that measure what colleges do for their country, instead of for themselves. Rather than reward institutions for their wealth, fame and exclusivity, the Monthly evaluates them on their commitment to three goals: social mobility, research and public service.
Washington Monthly stated on their website, “Much more credit should go to the regionally focused public and private universities on this list that consistently manage to do more with less.”
