The W plans pair of Capitol events
Mississippi University for Women will be hosting a pair of events at the Mississippi State Capitol early this year.

The first event, Capitol Day, will take place Wednesday, Jan. 29, from 1-3:30 p.m. in the first floor rotunda.
At the event, The W will showcase some of its programs: nursing, speech-language pathology, education and culinary arts to legislators and their staff. The goal of the event is to show how these programs specifically are contributing to the workforce statewide.
“I am pleased that we will be able to bring information about The W and these programs to the legislators and their staff members so they can meet our students and learn more about how these programs can play key roles in advancing labor participation in areas of growing demand,” said W President Nora Miller.
Students, faculty and staff from these programs will be on site to share information with those in attendance. They will be introduced in both the House of Representatives and Senate meetings, meet with their local legislators as well as legislators from the region and tour the Capitol building.
While this event is for students and campus personnel, the second event is geared toward alumni.
The W will host its Charter Day celebration at the Capitol, Wednesday, March 12, sponsored by the MUW Foundation.
The event will feature a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. at the Old Capital Inn, and following lunch, alumni and supporters of The W will gather at the Capitol for a celebration.
Charter Day is a celebration of the day the Mississippi State Legislature passed legislation which established the first public institution for the education of women, March 12, 1884.
To celebrate, attendees are asked to wear blue.
“Now, more than ever, we must unite to show our state capital day the strength, determination and to demonstrate why our beloved alma mater is a vital cornerstone for the state of Mississippi,” said Cathryn Borer, director of alumni relations and donor engagement for The W.
A registration email will go out to all alumni, January 21. In the event the email is not received, please visit longblueline.muw.edu/events/charter-day-2025 for more information and to register. Registration closes Wednesday, March 5 at noon.
