Mississippi University for Women nursing graduates excel above state and national averages on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) during 2022. Baccalaureate graduates led all state universities with a 96% first-time pass rate, while associate degree nursing alumni achieved a 91% pass rate, the third-highest in the state.

“We are proud of the perseverance and dedication demonstrated by this group of students. They called themselves the ‘Covid Class.’ These students started six feet apart, masked and faced constant clinical changes. This group truly lived nursing school through COVID,” said Dr. Brandy Larmon, dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

The W is the state’s leading producer of nursing graduates in the IHL system and has a long-standing reputation for excellence. According to Larmon, “Our programs have a long-standing reputation for many years of high-achieving outcomes among alumni, faculty and students. We have a culture of excellence that enables a standard of achievement unlike others. Our graduates are not only taught to be good clinicians but also to be compassionate and caring professionals.”

In 2022, the university graduated 378 undergraduate nurses. The university has graduated the most in the IHL system for five consecutive years. In total, including graduate nursing, the College of Nursing and Health Science at The W graduated 414 nurses in 2022.

The University’s nursing program prepares graduates for a career in nursing. Larmon said, “Students are prepared from their first day of class by their instructors, their clinical assignments and their various instructor-driven assignments. We also utilize instructor-chosen technology, instructor-created simulations and various other preparations to make sure they are ready to meet the challenge of the licensure examination.”

Larmon added, “The W’s success on the NCLEX is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the faculty, staff and students. The university is committed to providing the best possible education to its students, and these results are a reflection of that commitment.”
