Reforge by Millian Giang Pham

January 13 – February 7
Reception: February 6, 5:30 – 7:00pm

Holding onto cultural values but expressing personal needs, the works in A Mark A Maze are attempts at finding contentment among the muddy waters of gender expectations, cultural memories, and surviving through constant stress. The works juxtapose this chaos as semi-legible text in the style of Vietnamese celebratory monograms and plays on positive and negative spatial switching. References to cultural memories through materials such as conical hats, incense, and rice are recombined with forms of the body or rearranged to highlight the role of the body. The aim of this exhibition is to offer opportunities for more awareness of perspectival shifts through visual perceptions and bodily movement.
