Joining a student chapter of an educator-focused organization can help you form teacher networks, access resources, and receive support when needed. School of Education internships require liability protection, and both of these organizations provide this to student interns.
The Mississippi Association of Educators Student Program (MAE-SP) is a pre-professional organization of undergraduate students preparing for careers in education. While in the teacher education program, student members will have access to many benefits that will help during practicum experiences (including financial assistance and discounts, professional development, and legal representation and protection), and these benefits can continue throughout teaching careers. The goal of MUW’s MAE-SP chapter is to serve as a support group for the students involved in the organization, and students who join this chapter also become a part of MAE parent organization, known as the National Education Association (NEA).
To learn more about membership benefits, visit MAE website (http://maetoday.org/benefits/). To join the MAE-SP organization, the cost is $25.00 per year, and applications can be obtained by contacting the MAE-SP faculty advisors or by registering online.
*Please note, there are no stipulations such as grade point average (G.P.A.) and class classification, and the MUW’s MAE-SP chapter meets twice a semester.
