Intersections of Gender and Place

October 19, 2023 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Intersections of Gender and Place is a biennial exhibition that examines various issues of gender and also the impact of this region on the artist’s work. The parameters are purposefully vague so that the invited artists may address the theme through their own interpretations. The result is lively ‘conversation’ about gender in the South.
This year’s invited artists are Ashleigh Coleman, Sue Carrie Drummond, and Coe Lapossy. Coleman is a photographer who captures her everyday life in rural Mississippi. Drummond is a papermaker and printmaker, whose representations of clothing reveal cultural narratives. Lapossy focuses on ‘erased histories’ particularly through ‘artifacts of queerness’ as a critique on today’s society.
