Ambulatory care and health education is the goal of the Campus Health Center.
The Center is administered by the Dean of the College of Nursing & Health Sciences.
Our Staff
The Campus Health Center is staffed by Nurse Practitioners who are faculty members in the College of Nursing. The Nurse Practitioners are doctorally prepared registered nurses who in their expanded role are licensed to diagnose and treat many common conditions. The Nurse Practitioners in the health center are family nurse practitioners that are able to order tests, write prescriptions and refer to specialists as needed. The protocols for treatment are developed in conjunction with the Mississippi Board of Nursing and a collaborating physician.
Additional staff includes a Registered Nurse/Health Center Coordinator and a Receptionist/Administrative Assistant.
The Registered Nurse/Health Center Coordinator functions in the capacity of assisting the Nurse Practitioner. This is accomplished by taking the blood pressure, temperature, heart rate and a brief description of the current illness. The Registered Nurse/Health Center Coordinator is also present to assist individuals with any questions regarding medications, wellness practices, weight check, blood pressure values and general questions regarding health issues.
Who is eligible for care?
All MUW and MSMS students, faculty and staff are eligible to use the Health Center. Spouses and dependent children over the age of three years also are eligible to use the health center for a fee. (See Fees & Payments)
Due to the specialized nature of their care, the Campus Health Center can not provide services to pregnant women or children under three years of age.
