MFA thesis readings May 27-June 1

COLUMBUS, Miss. — The low-residency MFA program in creative writing at Mississippi University for Women will hold a series of readings Sunday May 27 through Friday, June 1, featuring graduate students and faculty.

All readings are open to the public and will be held in the Gail Gunter Multipurpose Room in Fant Library, starting at 7:30 pm. There will be no reading on Memorial Day.

Sunday, May 27, will focus on poetry with featured readers, Kendall Dunkelberg, program director and author of “Barrier Island Suite,” and Kathleen Galvin, who will read from her thesis, “Philopatry,” a collection of poems on her father’s experiences during the Vietnam War and working with him on his memoirs.

Tuesday, May 29, will feature Mary Miller, author of “Always Happy Hour” and Allison Chestnut, reading from her thesis, a memoir titled “Voice Lessons.”

Wednesday, May 30, will feature T. K. Lee, author of the forthcoming poetry collection “To Square a Circle,” and Jeanna Graves, reading from her thesis “What Did You Call Me?: A Collection of White Trash Writing.”

Thursday, May 31, will feature Ellen Ann Fentress, writer and producer of the documentary film “Eyes on Mississippi,” and Katrina Byrd, reading from her thesis, the novel “Saving Grace.”

Friday, June 1, will feature novelist Paulette Boudreaux, author of “Mulberry” and Exodus Brownlow, reading from her thesis, the novel “Afroze.”

Each evening two or three MFA students will also give brief readings from the work they have been writing in the program.
