Melissa Reeves serves as the Instructor of Music Education and Director of Bands at the Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS. Having strong creative skills and a desire to always better herself and to help her students improve and become better, drives her daily. She has a passion for teaching, connecting with, and sharing music with students whether they are music majors or in some other field of study; and her goal is to inspire them to become well-rounded individuals and have a life-long appreciation of music. Throughout her years of teaching, she has taught at every level from pre-kindergarten through college and hopes to impart her experience and knowledge on those who are aspiring to be music educators as well. Some of the schools in which she has worked in the past include East Amory Elementary School where she taught 3rd-5th grade music and was hired to choreograph for the Amory High School Colorguard. She also taught and consulted on design elements for the Amory High School marching show and for the Amory Middle School Winterguard. In addition to this, she served as the Head Band Director and Colorguard Instructor at North Pontotoc High School teaching 6th-12th grades. In the South Panola School District, she served as an Assistant Band Director and Colorguard Instructor; and in the Grenada School District, she served as an Assistant Band Director. While at Grenada, she began a flute choir and they were able to perform throughout the community. Other related work for Mrs. Reeves includes being an Adjunct Instructor of Music Appreciation at Northwest Community College — Lafayette-Yalobusha Center and working as a Graduate Assistant and Colorguard Instructor for “The Pride of the South” Marching Band and The University of Mississippi Band Program while in graduate school. Mrs. Reeves is excited to share her love for music with the students at The Mississippi University for Women.
