A summer workout plan doesn’t have to include summer heat.

Stark Recreation Center

Throughout the summer, the Stark Recreation Center at Mississippi University for Women is offering numerous classes for both members and nonmembers.

“There’s just something a little more freeing and relaxing in the summer months, making it a great time to strive for long sought-after fitness goals,” said Melissa Parsons, associate director of Campus Recreation. “With most of our student body home for the summer, we’re a little quieter and there’s no waiting for equipment.”

Functional Fitness, Yoga, Pound ®, Zumba ® and cycle are among the classes being offered weekly throughout the summer until Aug. 10. Classes are available Monday-Thursday with the first class beginning at 11: 15 a.m. and the last ending at 6:15 p.m.

The functional fitness room, titled “The Cage,” hosts multiple sessions for all fitness levels and schedules. Previously a racquetball court, the room features a rubberized and turf flooring with squat racks, wall balls, kettlebells, rowing machines and more.

Bootcamp Sessions will begin June 6. The camp is a complete body workout combining varying elements of strength, functional training, cardio, core work and FUN. Boot camp will motivate and energize participants to reaching their fitness goals.

The Stark Rec Center offers different membership options. A month-to-month membership is available for those seeking a temporary membership at $55 per month. An annual membership is available at $45 per month.
