Blues Brothers return to Columbus in W Jazz ensemble performance
Friday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m., witness the return of the “Blues Brothers” to Mississippi University for Women’s campus, on the Shattuck Hall Lawn. The W Jazz Ensemble will perform music from the 1980 comedy classic starring John Belushi and Dan Akyroyd.
After the opening of “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone,” the Motown hit made famous by the Temptations, the members of the ensemble will don their sunglasses to perform these “Blues Brothers” hits:
“Peter Gunn,” “Everybody Needs Somebody to Love,” “Sweet Home Chicago,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Minnie the Moocher” and wind up with “The Blues Brothers Rockin’ Soul Revue” which includes “I Can’t Turn You Loose,” “Soul Man” and “Gimme Some Lovin.’”
Ginger Zingara, The W’s director of bands, said, “Along with sharing the jazz standards, we will channel jazz greats, Aretha Franklin and Cab Calloway. We encourage everyone to do as Ray Charles says in the movie, ‘Shake your tail feather’. It should be a fun evening for young and old, alike.”
Everyone is invited to bring a lawn chair, food and drink to enjoy the music while the W Jazz Ensemble performs on the Shattuck Porch. The rain location will be Kossen Auditorium in Poindexter Hall. This performance is free and open to the public.
