Department of Theatre at The W announces auditions for ‘The Flick’
The Mississippi University for Women’s Department of Theatre will host open auditions for “The Flick,” the 2014 Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Annie Baker. Auditions will take place on Thursday, Oct 3 at 6 p.m. at Cromwell Theatre, located at 620 10th St. South in Columbus.
“The Flick” is set in a run-down movie theatre of the same name. The play follows the evolving relationships of three underpaid movie theatre employees as they struggle not only to make a living, but to define their lives, values and identities within jobs that diminish their self-worth. There are many important themes: expectations, unexpected futures, and through completely drawn and sympathetic traits this play offers stereotypes of race, class and gender. “The Flick” will show Nov. 14-16.
Character Roles Available:
- Sam: Caucasian, lives at home with his parents.
- Rose: Caucasian, projectionist taking a break from college, lives with Sam.
- Avery: African-American, bespectacled, also on a college hiatus.
Audition Details:
- Prepare one 30-second monologue from a play written after the year 2000.
- Open to all! The W’s Theatre encourages participation from students of all local colleges, universities, secondary schools and community members. No prior experience is required—everyone is welcome to take the stage.
