The Mississippi University for Women Alumni Association will offer insights in financial literacy and professionalism through the eighth annual BLUE event, scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 20, at 6 p.m. in the Pope Banquet Room in Hogarth Dining Center and online.

This year’s Building Leadership, Understanding and Education, or BLUE, features the theme of “Empowering Futures: Elevating Financial Literacy and Professionalism,” will focus on providing valuable education and understanding to students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends.

This year’s event features two distinguished keynote speakers:

Matti Gordon, a private banking adviser with Truist Investment Services, will share her expertise on financial literacy, offering practical advice and strategies for personal and professional financial growth.

Dr. Jackson Akwaowo, former Department of Defense Affirmative Employment Program manager at Columbus Air Force Base, will address the significance of professionalism in the workplace, highlighting how professionalism can open doors and create career opportunities.

“We are excited to bring these two outstanding speakers to our campus,” said Kristie Metcalfe, chair of the MUWAA’s Mentoring Committee. “Matti Gordon and Dr. Akwaowo are not only experts in their fields but are passionate about helping others succeed. This event will empower attendees with the tools they need to improve their financial well-being and develop the professional skills necessary to thrive in any industry.”
