MUW Alumni Association Honors Four Outstanding Students with Scholarships
The Mississippi University for Women Alumni Association is proud to announce the recipients of its annual scholarships, celebrating four dedicated students who have shown remarkable promise and commitment to their educational and career goals. This year’s awards were granted to:
- Zander Hall – Culinary Arts Advisory Board Scholarship
- Isabel Commodore – Southern Grace Scholarship
- Candra Broom – Legacy Scholarship
- Precious Davis – First Generation Scholarship
Each scholarship acknowledges not only the students’ academic achievements but also their individual aspirations and contributions to The W community.
Zander Hall’s Culinary Vision Earns Advisory Board Scholarship

Zander Hall, a freshman from Coker, Alabama, is setting the stage for a career in culinary arts. A graduate of Fayette County High School, Hall was awarded the Culinary Arts Advisory Board Scholarship, an honor reserved for promising culinary arts majors. With his eye on opening his own small restaurant, Hall envisions creating a welcoming space where guests leave not only full but also with cherished memories.
“I want to create an environment where people come, eat and leave fuller, but also feel like they had the time of their lives,” he said.
Living on campus has added to Hall’s appreciation for life at The W, where he’s quickly embraced opportunities to connect with others. “Living on campus has its ups and downs, but the lows never outweigh the highs,” he reflected. “There are so many opportunities to meet new people on campus, and it’s so much easier to get involved when you live right here!”
The Culinary Arts Advisory Board Scholarship will support Hall as he pursues his dream of making an impact in the culinary world.
Isabel Commodore Embarks on Culinary Journey with the Southern Grace Scholarship

Coming to The W from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Isabel Commodore is a dedicated junior in the Culinary Arts program, where her passion for food and community shines brightly. Commodore was awarded the Southern Grace Scholarship, which supports culinary arts students who demonstrate academic commitment and a drive to succeed. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Culinary Arts with a minor in pastry arts and aims to take her skills to an international level. Commodore believes an international internship will be her next move.
“My end goal is to open my own bakery café one day,” she said.
Commodore has become a familiar face at The W, where she’s made lasting friendships and formed valuable connections. “During the three years I’ve been at the university, I have become involved with many different aspects of campus life,” she said. “I met many girls through social club recruitment, and even though they found a home with different clubs than mine, those friendships still continue today.”
Candra Broom Receives Legacy Scholarship for Academic Excellence

Candra Broom, a dedicated W student from Hamilton and a graduate of Caledonia High School, has been honored with the Legacy Scholarship. The award recognizes students with a strong academic record and connection to The W community, supporting students who are dependents of alumni. Broom, who has shown dedication to both her studies and leadership roles, plans to make a lasting impact through her chosen career.
Broom plans to earn her degree from The W’s nursing program, then attend University of Southern Mississippi’s graduate anesthesia program. She appreciates the many benefits of being a nursing student at The W.
“The W has excellent tuition rates, is close to home and has an exceptional nursing program,” she said.
Broom looks forward to making a positive impact on her community as she continues her academic journey at The W.
Precious Davis Breaks New Ground with First Generation Scholarship

Precious Davis of Hernando, a motivated W student who graduated from Hernando High School, has been awarded the First-Generation Scholarship. This honor is awarded to students who are the first in their families to attend college. This award reflects the University’s commitment to supporting students as they embark on transformative educational journeys and build new legacies for their families.
With her determination and focus, Davis is forging a unique path not only for herself but for future generations. She is pursuing a double major in culinary arts and early education.
“With education, I would like to be a second-grade teacher, and with my culinary degree, I would like to run my own restaurant,” she said.
Davis finds life on the The W’s campus to be full of ways to be involved and to make new friends.
“You can meet so many people from all around and, even if you don’t think you have a lot in common, you become the best of friends,” she said. “I love being involved on campus!”
Each of these students embodies the spirit and resilience of our Long Blue Line, and the MUWAA is thrilled to support them on their journeys.
