Mississippi University for Women’s Department of Sciences and Mathematics is opening the doors to W faculty, staff and students for the science/math seminar series beginning, Wednesday, Sept. 11.

The course is being instructed by Dr. Ghanshyam Heda, professor of biology at The W.

Heda will be the first speaker, and his presentation is titled, “My semesters abroad.”

“The course will be conducted slightly differently.  This fall beside W students and faculty, local physicians and out-of-town speakers are scheduled,” said Heda.  

All seminars will take place each Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. in Room 117 of Parkinson Hall.

Wednesday, Sept. 18, Dr. Sarah Poiani, assistant professor of mathematics and Emma Sadler Moss chair at The W, will give a presentation entitled, “Weaving with Dietz Polynomials.”

September’s seminars will close out with a presentation from The W’s Dr. Bob Sample, associate professor of microbiology, Sept. 25. His presentation is not yet titled.

Other seminars will take place in October and November and will include outside doctors and professors. Those will be announced at a later date.

The W’s Department of Sciences and Mathematics offers laboratory-based instruction in natural sciences and courses that develop quantifying skills, supporting majors within every program across campus.
