“These new concentrations emphasize The W’s commitment to innovation and responding to industry needs. I am particularly excited about the concentration in workforce development, which addresses one of our state’s economic development goals. The concentration in hospitality addresses a growing business sector and will be an excellent advanced degree for our culinary arts graduates,” said University President Nora Miller.

The workforce development concentration is designed for students who aspire to hold careers in workforce education, training and development. It is particularly suited for those interested in technical education, vocational instruction, community college teaching, private industry training and workforce development agencies. The curriculum of the workforce development emphasis will prepare students to grasp the concept of workforce development, recognizing its significance in both business and education. Additionally, students will gain the knowledge and skills needed to build community partnerships that support workforce development and regional involvement.

“The two new MBA concentrations are an important step in the College of Business and Professional Studies commitment to meeting the needs of Mississippi employers as well as employers across the region. Preparing graduates to take a proactive role in workforce development activities and new leaders for the state’s growing hospitality and tourism sector is the College’s latest step in aligning our programs with what our constituents want and need to maximize career opportunities for our students,” said Kelly Woodford, dean of the College of Business and Professional Studies.

The hospitality concentration will prepare students for leadership roles within the hospitality industry, including management positions in hotels, restaurants, resorts and event planning organizations. The hospitality track focuses on the business aspects of hospitality management, such as revenue forecasting, guest satisfaction and operations. Students who complete the hospitality concentration will be prepared to manage service organizations from a guest satisfaction perspective and understand the drivers of revenue, such as forecasting, pricing and consumer behavior for hospitality organizations.

“I am proud of the work that has been done to expand our graduate level educational offering to professionals interested in the workforce development and hospitality industries. We are committed to providing students with access to career pathways in these rapidly expanding areas and to assist Mississippi in generating leaders for these sectors,” said Dr. Dee Larson, chair of Department of Business.

The W’s MBA program is designed to be flexible and applicable across various industries, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to meet the demands of the modern business world. Whether students choose the General MBA or specialize in workforce development or hospitality, they will gain the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a wide range of career paths.

The graduate degree program is 100% online and offered at the flat rate of $10,000. MBA students can choose between a full-time consecutive semester track and a part-time track to complete the program at the pace that meets their needs. GMAT or GRE scores are not required.
