Orientation Frequently Asked Questions
I was just admitted to The W. What do I do next?
Once you have been admitted to the university and completed your Intent to Enroll form, you need to submit your immunization records to the Office of Admissions and make sure all official transcripts have been submitted. All new students* must register and complete Orientation. You can register for Orientation by visiting https://www.muw.edu/ssc/orientation/ and selecting “Freshman,” “Transfer,” or “Online” for the whichever session you choose to complete. For more detailed information on next steps, visit https://www.muw.edu/ssc/orientation/getstarted/.
Do I need to come in-person and do online Orientation?
No, you only need to register for one orientation. The information you receive in our online Orientation is exactly the same as you would get at an in-person Orientation session. You must complete Orientation to register for classes.
How long is in-person Orientation?
You should expect to be at in-person Orientation all day, whether you are a freshman or a transfer student. Check in will begin at 8:00 AM and you should be done with advising by 3:00 PM. Students MUST be present for the entire day. Being late or not attending sessions can result in not being able to register for classes at the end of the day.
Where do I go for in-person Orientation?
Your first stop will be in Cochran Hall for check in. Once you have checked in, our wonderful Orientation Leaders will direct both students and guests through their day. Signs will be posted around campus to help you get to Cochran Hall as well!
I completed online Orientation. When can I get my class schedule?
Once you complete online Orientation, you will either receive a link to schedule an appointment with your Student Success Navigator or be contacted by your Student Success Navigator the following week. This is how you will discuss courses you need to take in the Fall.
I’ve already met with an advisor, why do I need to go to Orientation?
Whether you have met with an advisor or not, Orientation is required for all new students. (Please note: RN-to-BSN students have a separate Orientation. Speak to your advisor in Tupelo for details.) Both online and in-person Orientation connect you to campus by providing important information about The W. You will learn how to find your Student ID Number, navigate the WConnect portal, as well as learn about campus organizations, housing, and meal plans. This is all incredibly important information and will help you be successful during your time as a student at the W!
Can I bring someone with me to Orientation?
Yes! Students are allowed to bring a parent or guest to in person Orientation. Students and guests have separate schedules during the Orientation day. You will not be in the same sessions, but will all learn valuable information about the W! It is not recommended to bring young children to in-person Orientation as child care is not provided.
*RN-to-BSN students ARE NOT required to complete New Student Orientation in Columbus. Please contact your advisor in Tupelo with any questions regarding your Orientation.
