About Dr. Berglund

B.A., Psychology (honors), New Mexico State University
M.S., Family Science, Marriage & Family Therapy, New Mexico State University
Ph.D., Family Studies, Statistics Minor, University of New Mexico

Dr. Berglund earned her doctorate from the University of New Mexico Family Studies program, which focused on preparing doctoral students for careers as professors and as policy analysts in government. Dr. Berglund’s dissertation research focused on the impact of Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) on couple relationships. More recently, Dr. Berglund has examined the impact of family violence and campus sexual assault policies and programs on survivors. She has also examined the impact of student reflection on student learning through high-impact experiences, like problem-based learning and internships, and the impact of higher education policies on faculty.

Dr. Berglund has been heavily involved in developing and promoting the Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) credential through her involvement in several national committees related to the CFLE, Including the Academic Program Review Committee (which evaluates university applications to the CFLE academic program), the CFLE Advisory Board (which provides leadership for the ongoing development of the CFLE program and credential and for which Dr. Berglund served as Chair for 2021-2022), and on the CFLE Exam Committee (which works to develop and evaluate questions for the national credentialing exam for CFLE). Because of her lengthy involvement with the CFLE program, Dr. Berglund has served as the Family Science Program Coordinator for the PFSC Department for several years.

As the department chair, she advises students in both the Psychology and Family Science majors to become familiar with requirements of both. She once served on the Advising Corps, a faculty committee, which served as advisors to all new students within a particular college or school. As an academic advisor, she helps students choose courses and to find the best way for them to be successful on our campus.

Dr. Berglund works with students who are interested in conducting research on sexuality education for college-aged populations.

Dr. Berglund joined the W in 2006.
