August 30, 2024
Mississippi University for Women, Columbus, MS
This program is in honor of Sonia Kovalevsky, an outstanding 19th century mathematician and the first woman to receive a doctoral degree in mathematics. It is a one - day event with mathematics activities organized for high school girls and their teachers (male or female). The purpose is to encourage young women to continue their study of mathematics and prepare for possible careers in mathematics-related fields.
Join us on the campus of Mississippi University for Women (MUW) for the Sonia Kovalevsky High School Mathematics Day. The event includes a mathematics competition exam and mathematics workshops for high school girls and their teachers.
The program begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m. Registered participants may check in between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. in the lobby of Parkinson Hall at MUW. Lunch (@ $11) will be provided for free for the first 100 participants to register.
Prizes will be awarded to the individuals with the highest scores on the mathematics competition exam, which in the past have included MUW scholarships awardable to first-time full-time freshmen.
You do not want to miss this exciting event, so make plans to attend! Please complete the registration form and return it by August 22 to the appropriate address.
