Science & Math students prep for conference

Students in Dr. Brian Burnes’ spring 2024 section of BSB 485 Microbial Genomics all developed research proposals based on genomics and bioinformatics techniques they learned as part of Dr. Burnes class. Now, Dr. Burnes and the department are sending all the students to the Mississippi Academy of Sciences Annual Meeting in Hattiesburg, MS, to present posters of their proposals to the conference.

To practice presenting their work, Dr. Burnes’ students presented their posters to other departmental students in the SM 100 Science Math Seminar course. Each presenting student developed a 5 minute presentation of their poster’s contents, and SM 100 students .

The students were later that day sent to the Mississippi Academy of Sciences 2024 Annual Meeting in Hattiesburg, MS, to present their posters there.
