About Dr. Cotton

Catherine L. Cotton, is the Interim Department Chair and Assistant Professor in the Speech Language Pathology Department at Mississippi University for Women (MUW). She earned a B.A. and M.A. from Marshall University and her Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). Her recent research and works have focused on autism spectrum disorders; diversity, equity, inclusion, and access; the impact of health disparities on people with communication disorders; and mindfulness and speech-language pathology students. Dr. Cotton previously worked as a speech language pathologist in IN, KY, MD, NC, VA, WV, and on an Indian Reservation in SD. She has presented at local, state, national, and international conferences. Dr. Cotton has been a reviewer for the Journal of the National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing (JNBASLH), formerly known as ECHO: The Journal of the National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in articulatory/phonologic disorders, autism, communication disorders in infants, contemporary professional issues, counseling for communication disorders, language disorders in children and treatment, and principles of therapy: articulation. Dr. Cotton also supervises undergraduate and graduate students during their clinical practicum experiences.
