Student Conduct FAQs
Can the university take judicial action against me for things I have done off-campus?
In short, yes. Students found responsible for violating the law, or rules and regulations of the university, are subject to the university’s disciplinary process. The university reserves the right to take disciplinary action based upon conduct by students occurring off-campus and between academic periods.
I just received an email saying I have a pre-adjudication meeting. What do I do?
Whenever you receive an email from the University requesting or requiring you to attend a meeting, it is best that you attend. For our office, an pre-adjudication meeting is simply a time to discuss an incident with you, let you know your rights and your responsibilities as a student, give you an opportunity to be heard and respond, and discuss the next steps.
What happens if I don’t attend a scheduled meeting with your office?
Failure to attend scheduled meetings can result in further conduct charges and/or a conduct “hold” being placed on your account. This “hold” will prohibit you from being able to register for classes and may deny you other university privileges.
What kinds of sanctions might I face for a violation of the Code of Conduct?
The answer to this question lies in the nature of the violation and a student’s previous disciplinary history. The Code of Conduct states that the maximum sanction a student may receive is expulsion from the university. A list of possible sanctions can be found within the Student Handbook.
What happens if I don’t complete my sanctions or honor the agreement I signed?
Failure to honor your agreement or complete your sanctions can result in further conduct charges and/or a conduct “hold” being placed on your account. This “hold” will prevent you from being able to register for classes and may deny you other university privileges.
What is the Student Handbook?
The Student Handbook is a document that describes the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of individual students and registered organizations at Mississippi University for Women, as well as policies and regulations regarding campus control and campus use, traffic regulations, housing and residence life, and other miscellaneous campus policies. This document can now be found on-line. It is referred to as Student Handbook. All students are expected to be familiar with, and to observe, all University Policies and Regulations.
