In Talking Pillow, Ball channels the unexpected loss of her partner to explore the depths of love before and after death intervenes, creating a work that is, according to David Lehman, “as intimate as a dream.” Ball’s other collections of poetry include Vixie, Quartet, POSSESSION, Kneeling Between Parked Cars, and Night Clerk at the Hotel of Both Worlds, which was the winner of the Donald Hall Prize and the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters Award for Poetry. Ball directs the Center for Writers at the University of Southern Mississippi.
