Dr. Kemeshia Randle Swanson is this year’s recipient of the Eudora Welty Prize for a book published by the University Press of Mississippi in the fields of Literary Studies, Women’s Studies, or Southern Studies. Originally from the Delta, she is Assistant Professor of English and African American Studies at Mississippi State University. Her research interests include 20th and 21st Century African American literature, Southern literature, gender and sexuality studies, and Hip Hop and popular culture. Maverick Feminist is her debut collection of essays.
