Stark Recreation Center

Strength & Conditioning Room
The 5,300 square foot Strength and Conditioning Room offers Life Fitness, Precor, and Cybex cardio equipment, including treadmills, elliptical, steppers, rowers, and upper body ergo meters. Our strength equipment features the Life Fitness Signature Series selectorized machines and Hammer Strength free weights.
Natatorium
Our 157,560-gallon pool is a 25-yard, 6-lane lap and recreational pool. It begins at a depth of 4 feet and slopes to a depth of 11.5 feet. The water temperature is set to 84º Fahrenheit to meet both our lap and recreation swimmers needs. The pool also features a handicap lift and water basketball goal.
The Backyard
Adjacent to our natatorium, is a covered patio and a grassy area we like to call the "Backyard." There is also access from the Atrium to this 8,000 sq. ft. of outdoor space. This are is great for lying in the sun or gathering with friends. It is also an ideal spot to reserve for birthday parties, registered student organization activities, or barbecues.
Racquetball Court
There is 1 court for racquetball. The court can also be adapted for Wally ball. Racquetball and Wallyball reservations can be made by phone or in person. If the court has not been reserved, it is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Meeting & Conference Room
There are two meeting rooms in the Stark Recreation Center. The meeting room on the first floor can seat 35 - 40 people. The meeting room on the second floor is furnished with a large conference table that seats 10 people.
Stark Gymnasium
Stark Gymnasium is a high school regulation size basketball court where volleyball and badminton can also be played. The baskets can be lowered to 8 feet to accommodate youth.
The Cage: Functional Fitness Room
Trainer led functional fitness classes that include Olympic lifting, body weight exercises, and more!
Aerobic Studios
The Aerobic Studio can be used as one large studio (3,200 sq. ft.) or divided into two smaller studios. This space is used for group fitness classes, such as Pilates, Cardio Kickbox, Step Aerobics, Yoga, etc.
Stark Atrium
The Atrium is a versatile space offering wireless interest to surf the web, a 65 inch flat screen TV to catch the latest news, billiard tables for the pool sharks, or a spot to relax between workouts. It can also be used to accommodate small receptions.

Pohl Gymnasium

Pohl Gymnasium has 2 collegiate size basketball courts that can also be adapted for volleyball and badminton. A divider curtain can be used to divide the 2 courts. The gym also features chair-back bleachers that can accomodate up to 570 fans. Pohl Gymnasium is named after Emma "Ody" Pohl, head of the Department of Physical Education for more than 50 years. The gym is located in the southwest corner of campus on 11th Street South

Outdoor Facilities

Garrett Tennis Courts
Garrett Courts feature six hard top courts, completely fenced. When not used by students at The W, the courts are also used by the City of Columbus. Garrett Courts have served as host to numerous local USTA competitions. Named after Dr. Barbara Garrett, longtime coach of The W's tennis team, the courts are located one block south of Pohl Gymnasium, in the southwest corner of campus.
Don Usher Field
Don Usher, a Columbus businessman, was very supportive of the MUW Athletic Program At the ground breaking ceremony in 1984, the field was named in memory of Mr. Usher. Opening on March 18, 1986, the Don Usher Softball field has hosted many opponents across all divisions.
Roger Short Soccer Complex
The multi-use Roger Short Soccer Complex spans 35 acres and is home to 10 soccer fields. Located less than five minutes from campus, The W’s home field is located on the northern side of the Complex on 7th Ave. North. The picturesque facility has a meandering creek bordering its south sideline, festival- style seating along a gently-sloping embankment that runs the length of the field on its northern sideline. Convenient parking is just steps away from the seating area. The complex’s walking trail is parallel to the east end line, with restroom facilities and picnic tables overlooking the action on the field.
